I must start by saying that Plan B is a method of "birth control" with a lot of controversy following it. The Church teaches that birth control is a form of pride, taking the control of God's Will out of the act of marital union. So, as Catholics, all birth control is evil, in that it is in direct opposition to God's Will and Church teaching. Some studies say it is not an abortifacient. Others say it is. Either way, it carries horrible side effects that are much more common than most of the educational material is willing to admit. Progesterone, the main component of the pill, lists some, but not all, possible side effects: Severe allergic reactions (rash; hives; itching; difficulty breathing; tightness in the chest; swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue); lower stomach pain; missed menstrual period; spotting instead of your usual period.
Is the slope that sends us speeding into a Culture of Death so steep that we cannot stop? Giving children, with unformed, immature minds and bodies, the option to chemically abort their babies is going to cause irreparable harm to generation after generation.
Parents can opt-out, but the articles indicate that not every parent received the paperwork to be able to do it. Why isn't it an OPT-IN program? Why is it automatically assumed that every child is allowed to participate instead of the other way around? Please know that this is one more step away from the God of eternal life and towards the true death of the human soul.
Timothy Cardinal Dolan of New York blogged about it, and did a better job of it than I ever could.
And even though that is true, I still tried. Click here for my opinion about this mess.
